看了张源的简历,对于其目前的状况、做过些什么、能做些什么、有些什么能力和特长没有任何概念,但通过与她的交流,得知其人与所应聘的职位其实是非常匹配的,职位所要求的任职资格“qualifications”她都具备:
虽然张源具备了以上职位广告中提出的任职资格,但在简历中却未能够突显出来,因此,这样一份简历不能够吸引招聘人员的眼球,很可能第一关就被淘汰出局了。这份英文简历非常不专业,显得很幼稚,出现了很多错误:
① 撰写英文简历,要遵循“user-friendly”原则,要处处替简历阅读者着想,为对方创造便利。hr每天要给数十名候选人打电话约见面试,手机号码的写法需规范,这份简历遵循了4-3-4的原则,方便拨打。但忽略固定电话则不应该。另外,还应该增加联系地址信息。(若是跨城市找工作,没有当地联系地址,则不写地址信息:因为若不是急需人才,用人单位可能会考虑到交通成本问题而不给面试机会。)
②③④⑤ 是求职意向。这份英文简历写成这样,很明显是在海投,没有度身定制。②表明求职者正在找全职工作。③期望行业,建议一份简历只写一种,不要出现“etc”(等等)字眼,更何况出现拼写错误。④若非跨地区求职,可不必特别注明期望地点,若是大型跨国公司,可以注明一下,用人单位会尽量考虑你的期望。⑤“negotiable”(薪酬可议)这句话相当于没写。显然,这是受到一些在线简历模版的影响,若是定制个性化英文简历,建议不要采用这些简历模板,而应取长补短。
⑥ 若非招聘广告特别注明,不必随同简历发送照片。公司招人主要看求职者知识、技能,看你毕业的学校和专业,看你接受过什么样的培训,参加过哪些项目,做过哪些工作。不要寄希望凭借外貌增加hr好感。如果公司明确要求附照片,则照办不误。
⑦ 工作经历部分写得太简单,标题出现拼写错误“extra-curriculars”。我想求职者在这里是想表示“课外活动”的意思,那么可以用“extracurricular activities”,如果拿不准,可以用“experience”或者“social work”等简单词语代替。另外语言实在太简单了,没有有效展示自己。
⑧ 所获荣誉部分出现了拼写错误。如“activities”容易拼错,“top 10 literatural pace-setter”我想求职者可能是指“十佳标兵”,但此处“literatural”是杜撰的词语,想说得简单点,可用“top 10 best students”来表示,其实是十个最优秀的学生之一嘛,不过就是中文词汇丰富了些,变换了说法而已。
⑨ 列出的课程过多,可将它们移至教育背景栏目下,并简单列出与应聘职位相关的课程,像“hotel management”之类的就没必要提了。
⑩ 自我评价非常主观,用人单位其实要看你具体做了些什么。张源却把很多精力放在这里,寄希望全面展示优点,显然,这种想法是错误的。首先,这部分使用了大段文字,占据很大比重,无法引起hr的兴趣和注意力。要想抓住hr眼球,千万不要长篇大论,最好用简短有力的关键词和点句。简历中不应出现第一人称代词,这样显得不专业。如果你是与面试官面对面的交流,可以使用“i”、“we”等,但简历不应该出现“i”、“my”等字词,同时也应尽量减少非实义词语如代词、助词的出现频率。
问题总结
这份英文简历没有经过精雕细琢,格式、字体不够统一,拼写错误时常出现,这样的简历在招聘人员看来,首先是态度问题,然后是能力问题,被淘汰是在所难免的。
当然,这份英文简历最失败的地方就在于没把能力充分展现出来,无法向招聘人员证明自己的能力,不能够说服招聘人员约见自己。在撰写简历时,如果能仔细研究招聘广告,当我们与所应聘的职位匹配程度越高,胜出的几率也就越大。
为什么要进行这样的修改呢?我们一一阐释:
① 撰写英文简历时,开头就清楚地标明姓名及联系方式。hr看简历时,先看工作经历、学术背景,觉得差不多可以约见面试了,才看个人信息,
② 英语地址写法应遵循由小到大的原则,正好与中文的反过来,先写××房间,××号,然后再写××路,××市,邮编,××省,国名。邮编的标准写法是放在市名之后,也可以放在省名之后,但一定要放在china之前。 ③ 把求职意向写得明确一些,让招聘人员明白你正在寻找什么职位。也可以紧跟着证明自己能够胜任这份工作的能力和资格。 ④ 简历栏目不宜过多,一般不超过五个,否则显得凌乱。在所学课程之下,罗列相关课程,如这里列出市场营销、管理学、商务英语等课程,能从增强阅读者对求职者的立体感。 ⑤⑥⑦ 是工作经验部分,遵循从最近工作经验写起的原则。在经历描述中,有详有略,最近经历要重点阐述,用人单位最感兴趣的是你目前正在做的,对于过去,兴趣会降低许多;相关经历要多写。⑤与目标职位最为接近,要对照目标职位的描述挖掘曾经做过的工作;⑥展示了英文水平;而⑦说明人际交流和沟通能力。每个工作描述所展示的技能都与目标职位息息相关。 ⑧ 根据任职要求有针对性地罗列技能,包括语言、计算机技能。张源在简历中没有提到自己的中文水平,比较遗憾。另外提到日语会话能力,增色不少。 ⑨ 在与张源沟通后发现的较有特色的兴趣爱好及特长。不具体的爱好和特长不写,以免在简历中留下话柄,面试中将会陷自己于不利的境地。例如,一般人喜欢说自己爱好读书、旅游、音乐等,假如面试官也是个音乐爱好者,与你攀谈起来,就露馅了。张源喜欢弹吉他和跳健美操,曾作为领队带领健美操队在校年度晚会上表演过,这一点使形象更加丰满。

every year, i see resumes from students who try to "stretch the truth" in order to sound more desirable on paper. resume inflation. this lack of honesty, when discovered, becomes an instant knockout factor which disqualifies that person from further consideration. corporate recruiters are paid to screen people out, and the quickest and surest way to do so is when a "white lie" (it is still a lie, white or black) or exaggeration is found.
a recent graduate attempted to show experience in a computer language by placing it on his resume. it generated calls, but it also generated rejection letters when it became apparent that he did not really have a foundational understanding of the language. doors were shut (very hard, i might add) which could have otherwise been open to him.
remember, the resume is not a work of fiction. while it should emphasize the positive, it should never emphasize what does not exist.
